Privacy Policy

Overview

OpenRailTracker and TransitNEXT provide rail map, train tracking, route, station, weather, notification, widget, and related transit features. This policy explains what information the apps may access, how that information is used, and the choices available to you.

Information We Collect

The apps may process the following categories of information:

• Location data, if you grant location permission, to center the map, find nearby trains, and support proximity features.
• Notification permission status and notification preferences, if you enable train proximity or status notifications.
• Saved app preferences, such as map style, filters, selected widget station or train, theme, and feature toggles.
• Transit data received from public or third-party rail and transit feeds, including train positions, route information, station data, and service alerts.
• Device and diagnostic information that Apple, GitHub Pages, hosting providers, or app platform services may process to deliver the app or website.

How We Use Information

Information is used to operate app features, including:

• Showing your location on the map when requested.
• Finding nearby trains and routes.
• Delivering local notifications or live activity updates when enabled.
• Remembering settings and widget selections.
• Improving reliability, performance, and safety of the app experience.

Location

Location access is optional. If enabled, location data is used for map centering, nearby-train features, and proximity notifications. Location permissions can be changed at any time in your device settings. The app does not sell your precise location.

Notifications and Widgets

If you enable notifications, the app may use train and location context to provide alerts. Widget selections, such as a selected station or train, may be stored in a shared app group on your device so the app and widget can access the same preference.

Third-Party Services

The apps rely on public and third-party data providers for maps, transit feeds, weather, and rail information. Those providers may receive standard network request information, such as IP address and request metadata, when their services are used. Their own privacy policies govern their handling of that information.

Data Sharing and Sale

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Information may be shared only as needed to operate the app, comply with law, protect users, or provide services you request.

Retention

App preferences are retained on your device until you change them, reset them, or remove the app. Transit feed data is refreshed regularly and may be cached briefly for app performance. You can remove locally stored app data by deleting the app from your device.

Children

The apps are not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and address the issue.

Changes

This policy may be updated from time to time. The effective date above will be updated when material changes are made.
